What hydrogen-oxygen enhancement changes inside the cylinder, and how to measure the change on your own engine.

Short answer

How does hydrogen enhancement affect engine performance?

Hydrogen has a higher flame speed and wider flammability range than diesel. Adding a small hydrogen-oxygen stream to intake air accelerates the flame front, so more of the injected charge burns within the useful part of the power stroke instead of finishing late or leaving soot. Rated power and the factory fuel map do not change.

  • Commonly reported: smoother load pick-up, less visible smoke under load

Three effects inside the cylinder.

Flame speed

Hydrogen ignites and propagates faster than diesel vapour, shortening the time from ignition to full flame coverage across the charge.

Burn completeness

A faster, more even flame front leaves less unburnt and partially burnt fuel — the fraction that otherwise shows as soot or late-cycle heat.

Heat-release timing

More of the heat release lands in the crank-angle window that produces useful work rather than exhaust-side heat.

Measurement

How to test it properly.

  1. 1. Fix the duty cycle: same route, load profile, trailer weight or generator load bank.
  2. 2. Record a baseline over at least two full weeks or 50 engine hours before fitting.
  3. 3. Fit the matched unit and commission it — see the installation guide.
  4. 4. Record an equal post-install period with the same fuel supplier and drivers.
  5. 5. Compare litres per 100 km or litres per hour, not tank-to-tank impressions.

Questions.

Does hydrogen enhancement increase power output?

The unit does not raise rated power. It changes how completely and how quickly the injected fuel burns. Operators most often report smoother load pick-up and reduced smoke under load rather than a change in rated kW.

Does the ECU need remapping?

No. Nothing is changed in the ECU, injectors or fuel rail. The gas is introduced into the intake air only, and the engine's own closed-loop control continues to meter fuel.

How should performance change be verified?

Log a like-for-like baseline before fitting — same route or load profile, same fuel, same driver or operator — then compare an equal period after commissioning. Single-tank or single-shift comparisons are not conclusive.

Is it suitable for engines under continuous full load?

Yes. Units are rated for continuous operation while the engine runs and start and stop with engine vibration. For continuous heavy load, match the unit to displacement — H-900 up to 7.0 L, D-900 up to 16.0 L.
